Friday 17th October 2008 - Thirty DJs including Erick Morillo, Marco Carola, Monti, The Passive Resistance, DJ Knox, Disco!, Edward Allen, Diego Celi, Jason Short and many others rocked the Teleferico in Qutio, Ecuador and together created an unforgettable event.
The day started with fear of a wash-out as the rain poured down, but miraculously around 8pm the clouds cleared and we were treated to a perfect sky for the rest of the night.
One of the highlights of the night was definitely DJ Monti, who played an excellent deep minimal set and who's adoring fans jumped to his every beat. Monti is a true entertainer and one of the coolest people you could ever hope to meet.
Marco Carola played like the genius that he is to a packed dancefloor while Diego Celi showed that the local Ecuadorian talent is truly world-class with a wicked jump-up minimal techno mix. Disco!, two great young guys from LA, played a dirty minimal set despite that it was still too early in the night for the full potential of their tunes to unfold.
DJ Knox scored major points with the audience with his deep-house, deep-tech style and by being the only DJ to still play with real vinyl, by the end spinning to a completely packed floor despite his early starting time. Deep house is making a serious comeback and DJ Knox has proven his great foresight by never turning his back on it.
And at 04:30 in the morning, after the Morillo show and later Zeta Bosio, The Passive Resistance came and tore it up to deliver the festivals absolute highlight. As the only electro act of the night, The Passive Resistance was truly different so it was no surprise that by the end of the second track the floor was full once more and the crowd totally losing their minds raving. Here's the video:
We'll be posting more video's from the event as we capture them so stay tuned.
On the downside, the SAMC Panama, which was supposed to take place on Saturday was cancelled due to the cancellation by Copa Airlines of their flight between Quito to Panama City which meant that most of the DJs were standed in Quito. There was no time left for the organizers to switch to plan B and charter a flight so the whole event got blown off :(

Blues es todo - Quito, Ecuador
Last night at Blues club was awesome, from the vibe of the party people to the astonishing new sound and light system they just installed.
It was so much fun mixing on easily the best sound system i've ever played on that the time just flew by... all the way til the cops came to shut us down at 5am :)
Update : Listen/DL the audio recording here
(Track list here)
With their new Dynacord Alpha concept soundsystem, equal to great systems like those of Pacha or Space and unique in Ecuador and the surrounding countries, Blues club is fast becoming the number one venue for big name international DJs playing in the area.
So if you're visiting Ecuador make sure to stop by Blues club on a Saturday for a truly amazing acoustic experience and if you're a DJ, don't miss a chance to get a booking here.
All my thanks go to Gato, Monti & Alex for inviting me.
So now it's a couple of chillax days before the Passive boys and Knox arrive on Wednesday for the SAMC which should be more than a blast and half. Stay tuned for more updates...
